Reckless Disregard and Other Stories

Projected release date April/May 2026 from Main Street Rag Publishing Company

Reckless Disregard and Other Stories is a collection of fifteen stories ranging from short shorts to the title novella. "Reckless Disregard" traces the unexpected interactions of young Kristin Bennett, the city councilman she falsely accuses of hit-and-run, and the detective assigned to the case. Although several of the other stories deal with loss and regret, the collection is not without touches of romance and humor.

Excerpt

From "Weeds":

The weeds started in the flower bed of course, but they didn't stay there. After two days of rain, they began to sprout in the hallway between the bedrooms. Pulling weeds out of carpet is an onerous job, let me tell you. In spite of my best efforts, they soon spread to the living room. The only solution was to pull up the carpet, which is laid wall to wall in the hall, living room, and den. It was a big job and the hardwood floors beneath had to be refinished, but when it was done, I could finally breathe easier—until the weeds began to grow in the kitchen, at first around the edges of the vinyl flooring, where it met the baseboards, and then, against all reason, pushing up through the tiles themselves.

It was a disaster—they didn't match the color scheme at all...

Advance Praise

"Awesome collection of short stories! There's something here for every reader."

~ E.L. Oakes, author of Ghost in the Brew

"This is a book that touches those real places in the soul we don't want to think about, and the stories Linda Griffin wrote to accomplish that are genius. They hit the 'home' we don't want to face. Very creative and poignant."

~ Colleen L. Donnelly, author of I Have a Story

"Reckless Disregard and Other Stories is a marvelous collection showing the unexpected and sometimes dark side of life. I read the first story and felt compelled to keep going. The plot twists made me feel as if I were careening down a mountain road with failing breaks. You will laugh and cry and know exactly what comes next—only it doesn't. I enjoyed the entire collection and highly recommend."

~ Kim Janine Ligon, author of Running to Daylight

"Humans: the only species with the ability to think, question, communicate in many languages and in many ways is the one with "higher intelligence." Or is the species merely comprised of inept creatures who make a lot of bonehead decisions but have a highly inflated view of themselves? Reckless Disregard and Other Stories is an entertaining mix of vignettes that tackles that question."

~ Susie Black, author of the Holly Swimsuit Mystery series
